I offer expert exterior house painting and decorating services across Sittingbourne, Rainham, Faversham, Isle of Sheppey, Maidstone, and other local areas. My customers’ 100% satisfaction is paramount, as can be seen from my Checkatrade reviews.
Here’s an overview of what to expect if you hire me to do your house painting:
House Painting & Decorating Preparation
Preparation is always an important task for any exterior painting project in order to ensure a long lasting finish and this simply cannot be achieved by repainting dirty exterior paintwork.
In the initial stages, I will thoroughly wash down and rinse off all exterior woodwork and render, if applicable. This will then be left for a few days to completely dry before I continue with the preparation work. I will remove the gutters, clips and downpipes prior to decorating and these are bagged up with the screws and brackets. I will protect all lawns, shrubs/plants, garden furniture or ornaments with tarpaulins.
Each exterior painting project requires a different approach to the task. This depends on the type of exterior timber i.e. whether it is stained, painted, varnished or oiled. I cut out any loose or failing putty and replaced with new putty. The woodwork is thoroughly rubbed down to remove all loose or defective paint using either Festool dustless sanding system or a hot air gun.
I prime all bare timber using a trade paint from Bedec Paints. If the woodwork is stained or has been oiled, each section needs to be taken back corner to corner to reduce the different shading of stain or oil courses.
Once the white painted exterior timbers have been primed they will be checked over and, where needed, will be filled with a suitable two pack wood filler and then rubbed down and dusted off. The timbers are checked to ensure they are ready to accept paint. The same process is used when working with stained or oiled surfaces but where necessary, they are filled using a suitable coloured wood filler to try to match as far as possible the colour of the stained or oiled surface.
I continue by applying the undercoat to all white painted exterior timber followed by a further two coats of either satin or gloss finish depending on the client’s requirements. The timber is rubbed down between each coat with a light sandpaper prior to the next coat being applied.
In the case of stained or oiled surfaces, the same process applies using a base coat, followed by two top coats. Again, in order to provide a professional finish, each coat is rubbed down and dusted before further coats are applied.
Painting Exterior Render
Exterior render is always washed down with an anti-fungal wash and rinsed off, then left to dry. I will cut out any cracks and these are filled with a suitable exterior masonry filler. I will then seal the render with a coat of Sandtex stabiliser solution before applying two coats of trade masonry paint in a colour chosen by the client.
Exterior Painting and Decorating Completed
On completion the gutters and downpipes will all be meticulously put back where they belong and any rubbish will be removed.
